The Pacific Islands Working Group on IPv6

"Take the Internet where no other network has been before"

Dr Vinton Cerf, Internet Pioneer, Honorary Chairman IPv6 Forum

Welcome to the Pacific Islands Working Group on IPv6

IPv6 is the shortened form for Internet Protocol Version 6. IPv6 is designed by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) as the successor to IPv4.

IPv6 seeks to solve various issues with the current implementation of IPv4 including shortage of addresses and adds features such as network auto-configuration and improvements to routing and security.

The main feature of IPv6 is the larger available address space. IPv6 addresses are 128 bits long as compared to 32 bits long for IPv4.

The functional and operational aspects of the IPv6 SIG is carried out by the IPv6 Forum Pacific Islands. Please visit the website here.
