The Pacific Islands Chapter of the Internet Society serves the global Internet Society’s (ISOC) purpose and the interests of the global Internet community through its presence in the Pacific Islands. PICISOC focuses on ICT in the region in the wider context, and promotes Internet and ICT development in the Pacific region. PICISOC also acts as an impartial advisor to governments, organisations and the public on matters of significant interest to Pacific Island people. Individual Membership of PICISOC is open to all and our membership represents a broad cross-section of industry, ranging from academia togovernment to regional organisations to NGOs to the private sector.PICISOC organises an annual event called PacINET which is a regional conference for practitioners, developers, researchers and those interested in ICT from all sectors to exchange information on the system design, enabling technologies, and anecdotal experiences related to the use of ICT in the Pacific Islands. Since its humble beginnings in 2002, PacINET has evolved to become the region's premier ICT event attracting participants from within the Pacific region as well as from far afield as South-East? Asia, Europe and the USA. Proceedings of the conference are also webcast to an international audience and keynote addresses have been delivered by such luminaries as Dr. Vinton Cerf, Internet Pioneer and co-inventor of the TCP/IP protocol (which is what the Internet runs on).
