ISOC has announced Phase 4 of its Project Funding Initiative. This programme was established in 2005 to make funds available to ISOC Chapters and Members as they pursue ISOC's mission and goals in their many differing local conditions.

In the second year of the Program, 2006, the funds set aside are US$200,000 and any one Project may be eligible for an award of up to US$10,000. Such funding by ISOC is expected to be up to 50% of the cost of the Project being proposed and other partners/funding sources are expected to participate. This program will normally operate with funds being dispersed in two or more stages as the Project progresses. It is, however, understood that some Projects may not be able to begin until some funding has been released and the Project Funding Committee will take that into account as warranted.

In the year 2006 the Board has set the following as areas of strategic priorities for the Committee to use in evaluating project proposals:

- Maintenance and evolution of effective administrative processes necessary for operation of the global Internet and this, in particular, specifically includes projects supporting capacity building and education focused activities, especially those capable of transferability, i.e. they could easily be adopted by other Chapters/stakeholders as, for example, a best practices template.

- Education and research related to the Internet and internetworking.

Applications may be submitted from September 15th, 2006, until 23:59 (UTC) on Tuesday, October 17th 2006.
